Sourdough Soiree Jehovah Jireh, our Provider

Grades K-2: Counting & Simple Measurements

Objective: Learn to measure and count ingredients.

Activity:

• Count scoops of flour and water.

Compare amounts using terms like more, less, and equal.

Recognize numbers on measuring cups.

Discussion Question: How does God provide for us daily, just like He provided manna for the Israelites? (Exodus 16:4)

Grades 3-5: Fractions & Multiplication

Objective: Understand fractions and practice multiplication.

Activity:

• Use different measuring cups to make 1 cup (e.g., How many 1⁄2 cups make 1 cup?)

• Multiply or divide recipe ingredients to make a smaller or larger batch.

• Discuss doubling (2x) or halving (2x) the recipe.

Discussion Question: Jesus multiplied the loaves and fish to feed thousands (Matthew 14:13-21). How does math help us share food wisely?

Grades 6-8: Ratios, Percentages & Algebraic Thinking

Objective: Explore ratios, percentages, and algebraic expressions. Activity:

Convert measurements between cups and grams using a kitchen scale.

• Calculate hydration percentage (water-to-flour ratio) in the sourdough.

Solve for "x" when adjusting a recipe (e.g., If 100g flour and 75g water create a 75% hydration dough, what is x grams of water for 200g flour?)

Discussion Question: How is yeast like faith? (Luke 17:6 - "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.")
